Amazon Confirms Corporate Job Cuts Linked to Efficiency Push

Amazon confirmed on Tuesday that it will cut about 14,000 corporate roles, a day after reports surfaced that the company was preparing its largest layoffs since 2022.

In a message to employees, Beth Galetti, senior vice president of People Experience and Technology, said the reductions are part of ongoing efforts to streamline the company's structure and "reduce layers" to move faster. She said the restructuring comes as artificial intelligence ushers in what she called the most transformative shift since the early days of the Internet, allowing companies to innovate faster than ever.

Galetti noted that while some areas will continue hiring, others will see significant cuts as the company becomes leaner and more focused on its biggest priorities.

The company's leadership has framed the decision as part of a broader strategy to keep pace with fast-developing technology and maintain what CEO Andy Jassy has described as a startup-like culture focused on speed and ownership.
