Save Money on Prescription Medication with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company

Medical expenses and medical debt are major burdens in the United States. The most basic medications can cost a fortune and can dismay even well-off Americans. But some people are pushed to ration their prescriptions, to choose between food and their medications, and some can't afford the required drugs at all. Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company hopes to change that.

Save Money on Prescription Drugs

Cost Plus is Mark Cuban-owned enterprise that makes and buys drugs from drug manufacturers and distributes them at the lowest prices possible.

Lack of price regulation, which allows drugmakers and pharmacy benefit managers to add heavy markups to drug prices, is one of the reasons prescription drugs are much more expensive in the United States than the same medication sold overseas. These high retail prices are often set artificially. And this is the reason why Cost Plus wants to disrupt the drug industry. The plan is to do this with absolute price transparency. The company model is simple - sell drugs at their costs, plus a 15 percent markup and a flat pharmacy labor fee of $3.

The savings can be remarkable. For example, a 30 count supply of 400mg Imatinib costs $2,357 at Walgreens and just $47.40 at Cost Plus.

Fun fact: "Cost-plus" is an accounting term for a pricing method when fixed markup is added to the cost of goods and services to determine the selling price. Do you see what they did there?

Currently, Cost Plus offers hundreds of common medications and plans to grow from the present inventory to as many different generic and branded drugs as possible. They are building their own manufacturing plant in Dallas with the goal of getting their costs even lower and expanding the inventory to thousands of other drugs.

You can buy drugs from Cost Plus's website for a fraction of the prices elsewhere.
